Language Targeting for Banners in Alpha Testing

The thing I like most about the Founder’s Blog is letting all of you know what is happening and what is coming down the pipeline before it is ready for announcement. We always have an enormous amount of projects on the go at any given time. One of those recent projects has been Language Targeting. We have had Language Targeting available for our PopUnders for quite some time, but it was time to add them to our Banner system, our clients asked for it and we have delivered it.
How does Language Targeting work?
When it comes to Language Targeting, the thing I like the most about it is how it has less obvious uses. Most obviously, it is important and highly valuable for the language of the user to match the language of your banners. Trying to market to people who cannot read your banners, just doesn’t work. It allows you to reach sub-sets of entire countries. For example, its possible to reach Hispanic or Spanish-speaking visitors in the United States by targeting the Spanish language. These settings are gathered from the preferences of the web browser itself. So that means if a user has their browser set to Spanish, they will see Spanish banners from JuicyAds if the Advertiser selects it.
A lesser-known side effect of Language Targeting is to limit proxy traffic. For example, Chinese visitors frequently use proxy services to bypass “The Great Firewall of China” and very commonly those users are using proxy services based on Amazon infrastructure in the United States. While we already block a large swath of proxy IPs, the use of IP addresses are changing all the time and there are always more lesser-known proxies popping up.  By targeting only English-speaking visitors in your campaign, you are able to effectively remove those China-speaking visitors (and clicks) which saves money and improves return on investment (ROI). Of course, you will lose legitimate Chinese-speaking people who actually live in your target country, but some side effects are simply unavoidable.
We currently have a closed Alpha test version with a rudimentary user interface (very basic, very ugly). We will be releasing the Beta version to all Banner Campaign Advertisers when our new user interface launches in the near future.
